Curriculum

Reading
True Experience books - Students are discussing what they learned on an online secure wiki.
Go to www.wikispaces.com.
Skills we are working on: making inferences, drawing conclusions, and making generalizations

Reading groups are also working on a tri-fold board to share the information from their research with the rest of the class.  We are integrating the social studies objectives into this project.  Students will be responsible for learning what others "teach" them in the presentations.

Writing
Students were introduced to business letters last week.  They are excited about writing to a real business.  In the past, students have received a lot of cool items and letters.  We look forward to seeing what we hear back this year.  Help your child brainstorm an idea for a business letter.  Reasons to write a business or person of importance might be: make a complaint, request information, share a concern, or compliment.  Your guidance in this would be greatly appreciated.  When teaching this life skill, I am looking for the students to really understand the format of a business letter and how to use this in the future.

Word Work
Word of the Week = phobia

Grammar
Prepositions - know the definition, identify them, and use them in writing

Social Studies
Current Unit = Wars
Students will share information learned from their research and teach their classmates about some of the most important wars in the United States.
